Household Tip Jar #1 - Tips and Tricks for Odds and Ends
Every once in a while I will pick up on a tidbit of information or a tip that really sticks with me. It may be an easier way to do something, a great product for cleaning or a short cut that makes a big difference. This is what my 'Household Tip Jar' posts will be about. The tricks and tips don't really fit into any particular category but they will stick with you and make things a bit easier throughout your day. I hope you enjoy them and without further ado, here is the first collection of tips and tricks for odds and ends!
Annoying Glitter...
Have you ever had a really cute shirt that is glittery? You love it but the glitter goes everywhere? Well, luckily there is a really neat trick that will allow you to wear that shirt without making your hair, skin, house and everything else all glittery as well. Simply spray the glittered part of the shirt with hairspray! It will keep the glitter where it's supposed to be - on your clothing.
Do your sofa cushions need to be plumped?
Toss them into the dryer (check the heat setting on the tag first) and place 2 or 3 tennis balls in the dryer with them. They will plump up your pillows and have them looking new again. A noteworthy tip is to use the tennis balls every time you use the dryer. It cuts the energy usage down about 25%!
No Mess Paint for Kids…
If you have very small (or very messy) children and want to let them be creative without repainting your living room, here's a cool tip. Buy cheap and thin sponges and cut them into different shapes such as hearts, stars and moons. Then, give your kids some construction paper and a small bowl of water. They can dip the sponge shapes, squeeze out the extra water and stamp the paper! It creates fun designs with no mess. Of course, it's not much fun for older kids so this tip only works for a while – enjoy it while it lasts!
Splinter?
If your child has ever had a splinter, this tip will be invaluable to you. Rather than grabbing the tweezers or a needle, squirt some Elmer's white glue on and around the splinter and allow it to dry. Once it has dried, peel it up from the edges and it should remove the splinter! It's pretty easy and your kids will be more entertained than afraid!
So – that's it for the first collection of odds and ends tips! I hope these have helped you like they've helped me and stay tuned for the 2nd edition!

Great tips!! I may try the couch cushion trick today!
Another fun paint accessory - though it may not help with the mess - is to cut fruits and vegetables and use them as stamps or sponges. Potatoes and apples work really well!
OMG - that Elmer's glue tip is genius!
Oooh - I like doing the fruit and veggie stamps! I didn't even think of that one - thanks Danielle!
artpark - Yep...prevented a few screaming fits around here. LOL scotch tape is supposed to work too...
